Scunthorpe United is delighted to confirm Dave Syers will play for the Iron as part of our Legends XI encounter on Sunday, August 2nd (4pm kick-off).
An influential midfielder for the club between 2013 and 2016, combining energy, intelligence and a keen eye for goal during one of the club's most successful recent periods. Initially joining on loan from Doncaster Rovers in October 2013, his impressive performances quickly convinced the Iron to secure his services on a permanent two-and-a-half-year deal in January 2014.
A product of the non-league game before earning professional recognition with Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers, Syers brought maturity and versatility to the Scunthorpe midfield. Equally capable of breaking up opposition attacks or driving his side forward, he became an important figure in the team that secured automatic promotion from League Two during the 2013–14 season.
One of the standout moments of his Iron career came on February 22nd, 2014 when he scored the first hat-trick of his career in a memorable 5–1 victory over Portsmouth at Glanford Park. His goals, work rate and leadership made him a firm favourite with supporters as Scunthorpe celebrated an immediate return to League One.
Unfortunately, Syers' momentum was halted by a serious knee injury suffered on the opening day of the 2014–15 campaign, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Despite working tirelessly to regain fitness, he struggled for opportunities after his return and left Scunthorpe in January 2016.
During his time with the Iron, Syers made 46 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals.
IRON AID 2026

The highly anticipated event, organised in partnership with Nor-Lait Promotions, will bring together some of the most iconic names from both clubs' histories for a memorable afternoon of football, nostalgia and fundraising.
