In memoriam: Harry Kirk

Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Harry Kirk at the age of 82.

The Saltcoats-born left-winger began his youth career in his native Scotland for Ardeer Recreation before moving south of the border to sign for Middlesbrough. After one senior appearance for the Boro, he would return to Scotland and feature for Third Lanark, Falkirk and Dumbarton before returning to England and joining Darlington in 1967.

After 62 appearances and seven goals for the north-east side, he would make the short trip to Hartlepool United in 1969, spending one season, scoring five goals in 45 appearances.

The Iron would be where he would make the most appearances in his career, switching to the Old Show Ground in 1970. He would spend three seasons with the club, making a total of 112 appearances, scoring 16 goals.

After leaving Scunthorpe, he would sign for Stockport County in 1973. Two campaigns there saw him rack up a further 68 appearances, scoring seven goals before switching to Sweden in 1975, playing for IK Sirius.
