Ryan Delaney signs on loan from Morecambe

31 January 2022

Scunthorpe United has completed the signing of Morecambe centre-back Ryan Delaney on loan for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old centre-back reunites with Iron manager Keith Hill, who he played under at Rochdale and Bolton Wanderers.

Delaney has made 15 appearances for the League One club so far this season and has played over 200 matches in his career, scoring 15 times.

A former Republic of Ireland Under-21s international, with five caps to his name, he started out with Wexford in his homeland before moving to Burton Albion.

He went out on loan to Cork City before joining Hill at Rochdale on a permanent deal in January 2018. A loan spell at AFC Wimbledon followed before he was reunited with Hill at Bolton two years after signing for him at Spotland.

The 6ft 5in centre-back went on to play a part in Wanderers' promotion from League Two last season before joining Morecambe in the summer.

The move is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
