Supporter Award
The award began in 1971-72 when goalkeeper Geoff Barnard received the inaugural accolade. It became the Ernie Storey Memorial Trophy in 1974-75, named in honour of Ernie Storey, a long-serving club secretary who passed away in the summer of 1974. Callum Roberts is the only player to have won the award in consecutive seasons, doing so in 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Ernie Storey was a dedicated member of the club's office staff who began his career at Scunthorpe United as Assistant Club Secretary in 1957. After 16 years of loyal service in that role, he was promoted to Club Secretary on September 21, 1973, following Ken Cowling's retirement.
Tragically, Ernie passed away in the summer of 1974, less than a year into his new position. The club honoured his memory by renaming the end-of-season player award in his name, beginning with the 1974-75 campaign, when Angus Davidson became the first recipient of what is now known as the Ernie Storey Memorial Trophy.
Following Ernie's death, Sheila Louth transferred from Doncaster Rovers to become his successor as Club Secretary on August 21, 1974. The trophy remains the club's most prestigious individual honour, voted on by supporters each season to recognise the standout player of the campaign.
