Versatile defender Oli Rose joins Spalding United on initial month long loan

Scunthorpe United can confirm that Oli Rose has joined Enterprise National League North side Spalding United on loan for an initial month.

Originally joining the Iron on a short-term loan from Peterborough United in the 2024-25 season, Rose went on to provide three assists in the wins over Brackley Town and Needham Market, both at the Attis Arena, and away at Alfreton Town, before his loan spell was abruptly halted in the second half away at Kidderminster, as he suffered an injury, which resulted in his return to Peterborough and missing the remainder of the campaign.

The following summer Rose linked up with the Iron on a permanent basis, setting him up for a breakthrough campaign in the Enterprise National League. However, after a stunning equalising goal against Sutton United to open his account for the club, the defender's season would be cut short with a hamstring injury in the following fixture against FC Halifax Town.

Despite returning to fitness several times, Rose would require an operation to fully recover from his injury, keeping him out for the remainder of United's 2025-26 campaign. After recovering from his injury, Rose would come into this pre-season with hopes of securing a place in the Scunthorpe side, and after several promising performances playing in a midfield role as well as scoring against North Ferriby, Rose would unfortunately be left on the sidelines again by an injury that he picked up mere weeks into the season.

Now, with the 20-year-old cleared to play, he joins the high-flying Tulips managed by former Iron boss Jimmy Dean with hopes of establishing much-needed minutes. With Spalding sitting 4th in the standings in remarkable form, this move could be just what Rose needs to kickstart his season.
