The Iron acquire highly-rated midfielder Dan Batty following his departure from York City

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated midfielder Dan Batty following his departure from York City in the summer.

Batty joins United after spending the summer with the PFA's pre-season, with Scunthorpe fighting off several different sides for the midfielder's signature, having built up a reputation as one of the National League's most gifted midfielders during his recent three-year spell with the Minstermen.

Starting his career across the bridge with Hull City, Batty would be a major success story coming out of the Tigers academy. Before making his professional debut for the Tigers, Batty was handed a spot in the squad for their Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the 2016/17 season, going on to establish himself in the side, making over 80 appearances for the club, with the majority of which came in the Championship prior to Hull's relegation to League One in 2019-2020.

Batty would start the season with the Tigers as they were instantly promoted back to the Championship at the first time of asking, making a handful of appearances in the first half of the campaign before making the permanent switch to Fleetwood Town in the January of the 2020-2021 season.

Barring a short-term loan to FC Halifax Town in 2017, this would be Batty's first time away from the KCOM Stadium in his career, immediately showing the quality he possesses upon his arrival at Fleetwood, going on to have a fantastic spell with The Fishermen, seeing him clock up 87 appearances over his two years, netting five times and assisting ten times.

Following the success of his time on the Fylde coast, Batty would become one of the first statement signings of the new ownership level at then National League side York City, linking up with the Minstermen and going on to play a crucial part in the club's success in recent years, appearing 41 times as York were promoted to the EFL last season.

Now Batty joins the Iron, looking to bring control and quality to the middle of the park, putting pen to paper on a short-term deal with the club until January.
