MATCH PACK: Harrogate Town (H)

Next up at home for the Iron in the Enterprise National League, we welcome Simon Weaver’s Harrogate Town side, who will be looking to make an immediate impact on their return to the fifth tier of English football.

After six seasons in the EFL, the Sulphurites were relegated from League Two last season following a difficult campaign that saw them finish 23rd, returning to the National League for the first time since their promotion in 2020.

Despite their relegation, Harrogate have retained a number of experienced players over the summer, with the likes of Mark Oxley, Warren Burrell, Bryn Morris, Mason Bennett and Jack Muldoon remaining at the club. Weaver has also looked to rebuild his squad with a number of new additions, including former Peterborough United defender Tom Lees, Ciaran McGuckin, Josh Hmami and Brad Dolaghan, who finished as the National League South's leading scorer last season.

An encounter familiar to the Iron over the course of recent years in the EFL, the sides have exchanged blows four times since 2020, with Scunthorpe winning two of the meetings and Harrogate winning the other two. Notable results include a 5-2 victory for United in the 2020-21 season, however they would befeated 6-1 the following season in a humiliating defeat at Wetherby Road.

With the clubs now reunited in the National League, the upcoming meeting at the Attis Arena will provide another chapter in the developing history between the two sides.

Over the summer, Harrogate have undergone considerable change as they prepare for life back in the National League. Alongside their retained core, the Sulphurites have added a mixture of Football League experience and promising young talent, with Tom Lees bringing considerable experience at the back, while the impressive additions of McGuckin, Hmami and Dolaghan provide further attacking and creative options. With Weaver remaining at the helm, Harrogate will be hoping their revamped squad can quickly adapt to life back in the fifth tier and challenge for a strong position during the 2026-27 campaign.
