Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Jordan Richards who will join the club following the expiration of his contract with Boston United on July 1st on a two-year deal.
A versatile midfield option to add to the Iron’s ranks, Richards started his career in the Notts County youth academy before penning his first professional contract for the club. Within a matter of months, Richards would join the Pilgrims for the first time on a short-term loan deal. After returning to County, the now 28-year-old midfielder would enjoy a loan spell with Sligo Rovers before making the permanent switch to Gainsborough Trinity.
After an impressive spell with the Holy Blues, Richards would firstly make the move to King’s Lynn Town where he enjoyed the most successful period of his career, spending time in step one with the Linnets before making the switch to National League North side Brackley Town, for whom he was a consistent starter, managing to make 53 appearances in the league during his time with at St James’ Park.
Narrowly missing out on promotion to the National league with Brackley, Richards would attract the attention of Boston United yet again, making the permanent move to Boston in the summer of 2023 with hopes of consistent game time and achieving promotion, which he would go on to do by featuring 46 times and playing his part in the Pilgrims promotion to the National League during their 2023-24 playoff winning season.
During his time at the Jakeman’s Community Stadium, the workhorse midfielder would make over 135 appearances in all competitions, helping his side maintain their National League status over the past two years, and named as the Pilgrims' player of 2025-26 in their end of season awards. Now, Richards joins the Iron, looking to push towards the EFL under first-team manager Andy Butler, who has been a long-term admirer of his latest addition.
Welcome to the Iron, Jordan!
