Scunthorpe United is delighted to confirm current goalkeeper coach and former shotstopper Paul Musselwhite will play for the Iron as part of our Legends XI encounter on Sunday, August 2nd (4pm kick-off).
Returning to the club in the summer of 2013 marked his third spell with the club, with the former goalkeeper beginning his professional career with Portsmouth before first joining the Iron in 1988. Over the next four years, he made 132 appearances before moving on to Port Vale, where he would spend eight successful seasons and make more than 300 appearances.
Following spells with Hull City and several other clubs, Musselwhite returned to Glanford Park in 2004 and played a key role in the Iron's League Two promotion-winning campaign of 2004-05. After two further seasons with the club, he departed for a second time in the summer of 2006.
His playing career continued in non-league football before he moved into coaching, taking up a goalkeeping coach role at Lincoln City. He later joined York City as player-goalkeeping coach and famously kept a clean sheet on his debut in a 1-0 victory over Cambridge United at the age of 43.
After a brief spell as goalkeeping coach at Bury, Musselwhite returned to Scunthorpe United in June 2013 to take charge of the club's goalkeepers. Since then, he has become the longest-serving member of the football staff, working under a number of managers and playing an important role in the development of goalkeepers across the club. His experience, loyalty and knowledge of Scunthorpe United have made him a highly respected figure both within the dressing room and throughout the wider football club.
IRON AID 2026
Scunthorpe United Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Iron Aid, with a Scunthorpe United Legends side set to take on a Manchester United Legends XI in a special pre-season fixture at the Attis Arena on Sunday, August 2nd (4pm kick-off) as part of a wider event with more details to be released in due course.
The highly anticipated event, organised in partnership with Nor-Lait Promotions, will bring together some of the most iconic names from both clubs' histories for a memorable afternoon of football, nostalgia and fundraising.

The match marks the return of the popular Iron Aid concept, which in 2024, as part of the club's 125h anniversary celebrations, raised significant funds for local charities and community causes, whilst creating unforgettable occasions for supporters of all ages.
