The Iron are back in action in the league, looking to make it eight consecutive victories.
Last time out, Scunthorpe won 3-1 at home in the FA Trophy against Clitheroe, building
on their league victory against a struggling Gateshead side. Next up is an away trip to
Morecambe who sit in 22nd in the table.
In the reverse fixture, the Iron won 3-1 at the Attis Arena. First-half goals from Cal Roberts and
Danny Whitehall put Scunthorpe in the driving seat, before Ben Tollitt got one back seven
minutes prior to Tyrell Sellars-Fleming netting the third for the Iron. Sellars-Fleming has recently been recalled by Hull City on his loan at Scunthorpe, to go on loan to Grimsby Town. United have replaced the winger with a familiar face, Connor Smith on a permanent transfer. Smith was a fan favourite during his loan spell at the Iron in the 23/24 season, netting six goals in just 16 appearances, making an immediate impact. The return of Smith gives the Iron another strong reinforcement in attack, as the forward will be looking to make an immediate impact, just like he did in his first spell.
After a horror start to the season with form and almost losing the club, Morecambe are still
struggling as they sit in the relegation zone, coming off the back of three losses, but they
certainly still have a good chance of staying up if they can find a run of form. Despite tough
defeats, Morecambe are just three points behind Sutton United in 20th place, outside the
relegation zone.
As the Iron look to continue to stride towards their quest for promotion, three points would pile
pressure on to teams higher in the table, as they look to close down the gap. Morecambe are
also aware what three points would mean to them, the side tipped for relegation by many could
get onto level points with 20th place Sutton United.
