The Iron are back in action after coming out on the right side of a five-goal thriller against
Robbie Savage's Forest Green Rovers side.
The visitors struck first inside the opening five minutes, through a goal by Ricardo Rees. Danny Whitehall equalised shortly before half-time, and five minutes after the interval, Zain Westbrooke fired Scunthorpe into the lead. Just seven minutes after Westbrooke’s strike, Jill Buyabu found an equaliser, and the Iron managed to get a winner with just fifteen minutes to go, thanks to Carlton Ubaezuonu. Next up is a home FA Trophy fixture against National League South side Horsham.
The away side sit in ninth place in the table, just one point behind the final play-off spot, and
come into this game off the back of a 3-2 loss to Chelmsford. Away from home, the visitors have
been exceptional in their division. No side has picked up more points on the road, with 26 points
from a possible 45, with seven wins, five draws, and three losses. Horsham have beaten Hemel
Hempstead and Leatherhead are away from home in their latest FA Trophy games, and will be
desperate to add to their away form.
Two key players for our opponents are Reece Meekums and James Hammond. Hammond, 28
year old midfielder, is in first third season for Horsham and had only scored one goal for the club
before this season. The midfielder has managed eight goals this season, and is likely to be a
strong threat for the opposition. Meekums, 27 year old attacker, also in his third season entered
the season with his two club goals and has bagged seven goals this season. This impactful duo
is set to cause problems for the Iron defence this weekend.
Danny Whitehall kept up his great form against Forest Green with a goal, following a goal
against Boreham Wood, an assist against Morecambe and a goal against Gateshead, making it
four consecutive games picking up a goal involvement. The 30 year old, in form striker, will be
keen to book the Iron a place in the next FA Trophy draw. Another in-form player for Scunthorpe
is Zain Westbrooke. Two consecutive games on the scoresheet against Forest Green and
Boreham Wood and an assist away at Morecambe.
With a quarter final place up for grabs, Andy Butler’s side are looking to continue their cup run
with the prospect of a trip to Wembley in the final in sight. The Hornets will travel to the Attis
Arena with some faith they can cause an upset, due to their impressive away form on show in
the league and earlier rounds in the FA Trophy.
