The Iron bolster their defensive ranks with Zain Tahir loan signing

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the loan signing of versatile defender Zain Tahir from EFL Championship side Sheffield United for the remainder of the season.

With the ability to play as a centre-back or at left-back, Tahir has completed his initial two-year scholarship with the Blades and more recently made the permanent step up to the Under 21s, where he's already been a regular across the past couple of seasons, representing the side led by former Scunthorpe winger Gary McSheffrey more than any other player last season.

Having been a key figure in Sheffield United's Professional Development League National title winning season last campaign, the defender signed his first professional contract with the Blades in 2025 and now Tahir joins the Iron looking to gain experience in the men's game in what is an exciting period for the 19 year-old.
