The Iron are back in action on home soil for a clash against title challengers, York City, as
They look to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat away at Aldershot.
Last time out, United found themselves down by three goals at halftime due to a brace from Sean Patton and a goal from Brody Peart. Danny Whitehall got one back soon after the second half kicked
off, but the game finished 3-1. United will be hoping their home crowd can spur the side
on to inspire a special victory.
In the reverse fixture against York, Scunthorpe got a special victory on a day to remember. After
travelling to the LNER Community Stadium in midweek, Alfie Beestin got the opener right on the
stroke of half-time, before some late drama in Yorkshire. Oliver Ewing looked to have settled it,
netting the second goal of the match in the 83rd minute, but York got one back in the 90+5th
minute of the match, through Ollie Pearce. Tyrell Sellars-Fleming settled any nerves by getting a
goal to make it 3-1 in the 90+9th minute, a performance similar to that match would make the
Iron a very hard side to beat.
York haven’t lost a league game since that match they hosted against Andy Butler’s side as they
enter this match in impeccable form. 22 league games unbeaten, with 18 victories and just four
draws in that run of fixtures. The Iron will be looking to get back to winning ways whilst also
landing the Minstermen their first defeat in the league since both sides last met.
Two players United will be hoping to keep are the duo of, Alex Newby and Ollie Pearce. Ollie
Pearce netted a goal and picked up an assist last time out for his side and is the league’s top
scorer with 28 goals and seven assists in the league, ten goals clear of the league’s second
highest goalscorer. The 30-year-old joined York from Worthing before the 24/25 season and has
been remarkable for his side. Netting 33 and assisting 11 in his first season, and this season
, he is putting up similar numbers this early into the season. Alex Newby joined the side in the summer
and has been a good addition, as a player who can play in the midfield and on the wing. Newby
has netted 11 goals this season, picked up one assist and proved to be a massive goal
threat for City. Both players will come to the Attis Arena looking to continue the Iron’s rut of form.
As both sides look in the top five, look to bolster their form in the hopes of a promotion being on
the horizon, a victory is important for both sides for different reasons. York are constantly
looking to try and go above first-place Rochdale, just one point separates the sides at the top of
the table. The Iron are looking to get back to winning ways and get into some form, as
Boreham Wood are within touching distance in the league, and putting some pressure on Carlisle
whilst cementing themselves further into the playoff places.
