Scunthorpe United is excited to announce the launch of the “Pounds for the Pitch” initiative in partnership with the SUFC Unity Group and Positivity Dave, as the supporters group looks to raise vital funds for the resurfacing of the Attis Arena pitch this summer for the club.

The new campaign invites supporters, local businesses, and the wider community to come together and contribute towards an essential improvement project at the Attis Arena. With the close of the season approaching, preparations are already under way to ensure the playing surface is in the best possible condition ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The resurfacing of the pitch at the Attis Arena represents a significant investment in the club’s future, safeguarding playing standards, enhancing matchday experiences, and supporting the ambitions of the first team.

Working alongside the SUFC Unity Group and Iron supporter known as Positivity Dave, the “Pounds for the Pitch” initiative will provide a range of opportunities for fans to get involved, including individual donations, fundraising events, and community-led activities. Further details on how to contribute and upcoming fundraising events will be announced in due course.

Following a meeting between the club and the supporter's group, tiered fundraising targets have been outlined to support the club, setting out clear financial milestones with specific infrastructure goals attached to each level. The structure is designed to show supporters exactly what their contributions would achieve, starting with essential ground improvements and scaling upward towards the full renovation.

FIRST TOTAL TARGET - £10,000
Sprinkler System Upgrade

Before a single blade of new grass is laid, we must get the foundations right.

This phase focuses on upgrading the stadium’s sprinkler system before the new playing surface is installed. Reliable irrigation is essential for maintaining consistent pitch quality throughout the season.

A modernised system will:
- Ensure even water coverage across the entire surface
- Prevent dry patches and uneven growth
- Support healthy root development
- Help meet league and competition standards
- Without effective irrigation, even the best surface can deteriorate quickly.

This upgrade lays the foundation for long-term pitch performance and sustainability. Your support helps us lay the groundwork for something lasting.
SECOND TOTAL TARGET - £20,000
Phase one of pitch renovations

To move forward, we must first start again.

This phase removes the worn and tired surface that has served us through countless matches and memories. Using specialist equipment, the existing vegetation is stripped away, the soil is cultivated and levelled, and the base is consolidated.

This work resets the pitch structure, removes contamination and worn grass, and creates a clean, stable base ready for the new reinforced surface.

This is where transformation begins.
THIRD TOTAL TARGET - £40,000
Fibresand

This phase introduces a high-performance base layer of Mansfield Fibresand Concentrate across the entire surface.

Fibresand is the hidden hero of modern sports pitches and is a specialised sand and fibre blend that reinforces turf roots and creates exceptional drainage. It allows water to move freely, prevents waterlogging, and encourages deeper, stronger root growth. The result? A surface that withstands heavy use, harsh weather, and the demands of a full season.

This investment ensures our pitch isn’t just rebuilt; it’s rebuilt to last.
FOURTH TOTAL TARGET - £50,000
Seeding, verti-draining and topdressing

This stage brings the new pitch to life.

High-performance sports seed is sown to create a dense, resilient grass cover. Deep aeration allows air and water to penetrate the soil, strengthening roots below the surface. Topdressing refines levels and protects the young grass as it establishes.

Together, these steps ensure strong grass establishment and optimal playing conditions from the outset.
FIFTH TOTAL TARGET - £75,000
Aftercare and pitch maintenance

This phase ensures the investment is protected and the surface matures correctly.

The months after installation are critical. Careful irrigation, targeted feeding, precise mowing, and ongoing monitoring ensure the surface matures properly. This is where expertise and attention to detail protect every pound invested.

This period determines how well the pitch establishes and how long it will perform at a high standard.
SIXTH TOTAL TARGET - £100,000
Seasonal maintenance

Contribution to the long-term seasonal maintenance ensures the pitch remains safe, compliant, and high-performing year after year.

Ongoing maintenance keeps the surface safe, compliant, and match-ready. Regular aeration, feeding programmes, drainage management, and end-of-season renovations preserve performance and extend lifespan.

Consistent professional maintenance protects the club’s investment and guarantees a surface players, supporters, and league officials can be proud of.

Chair of Scunthorpe United, Michelle Harness, said: “The pitch is at the heart of everything we do and this project is more than just about grass. As we look ahead to next season and beyond, it’s vital that we invest in our facilities to give our players the best possible platform to perform. It’s an area of real focus for the summer after two seasons where the surface hasn’t been as good as it could and should have been, but this will take significant investment, and I’m sure supporters and businesses alike will get behind this initiative from the SUFC Unity Group, who have already raised a significant level of funds since their inauguration.

“We’re delighted to be working alongside the SUFC Unity Group and Positivity Dave on this initiative and encourage everyone to get behind ‘Pounds for the Pitch’ and thank Positivity Dave for coming up with this initiative to help support us further.”

The SUFC Unity Group added: “Positivity Dave came to us wanting to make a difference and support the club further with this idea, and it’s something we presented to the club with Dave to try to help. This is a fantastic opportunity for supporters to make a direct and lasting impact on the future of our club. Every pound raised will go towards ensuring the Attis Arena remains a surface we can all be proud of. Every contribution, large or small, moves us closer to a pitch that reflects the ambition, pride, and passion of everyone connected to this club.

"We call upon all supporters groups to join us and get behind assisting the club in lifting the burden than this financial ”
