PREVIEW: Yeovil Town (H) - August 8th 2026

The Iron welcome Yeovil Town to the Attis Arena, for the opening match of the league campaign, as we look to build on our strong first season back in the National League.

United were narrowly defeated in the semi-finals of the play offs last season, and will be hoping to improve on that after several reinforcements made this summer. Two exciting players brought in who have impressed during pre-season, are central defender Callum Howe and forward Luke Brennan. Brother to attacker Dec Howe, Callum joined with bags of experience at the age of 32 and was the York City captain, leading them to the title.

Attacker Luke Brennan joined the Iron in the summer and has taken the number 10 shirt, after the departure of Cal Roberts in the summer, and he will be looking to fill the void in Roberts’ departure. Brennan, 24, joins after two years at Buxton where he was an important player for the Bucks. In his first season Luke netted 11 goals in 29 appearances and in his second and final season, he bagged 16 goals.

Our opposition Yeovil, finished 16th last season and have been looking to improve this summer, making well over 10 signings, one of which being Zain Westbrooke, who had an impressive spell last year at the Iron during our promotion push, and they have recently acquired the attacking prospect Charlie Lennon on a season long loan from Barnsley FC.

In our last pre-season match, Scunthorpe played 120 minutes against Chesterfield at the Attis Arena, and United impressed against the side who were in the play-offs a division higher than Scunthorpe with the match ending in a 1-1 draw. Alfie Beestin impressed during the match and was on target to get the equaliser in the 87th minute.

With both sides optimistic on opening day, it will be interesting to see which side is stronger after both sides have made multiple player reinforcements.
