The Iron are back in action on home soil looking to rejuvenate their form and get their first win of the season, as they host a Solihull Moors side who currently sit bottom of the league after three matches.

Last time out, Scunthorpe lost 3-2 away to Eastleigh. Alfie Beestin and James Gale netted for the Iron, but goals from Harry Sidwell, Aaron Blair and Josh Lundstram got the goals for Eastleigh to get all three points.

Winless in their opening three, Moors lost 3-1 against Southend United at home. Jacob Wakeling missed a penalty just four minutes into the match, but made amends just ten minutes later, scoring the opening goal in the match. Oliver Coker and Josh Popola both got on the scoresheet in the last six minutes of the first half to put Solihull a goal down at halftime. Charley Kendall scored in the 92nd minute to compile misery for The Moors.

Last season Solihull finished mid-table in 14th place with 56 points and gave the Iron two good games. The first time both sides met last season, Solihull won 3-0 at home. Tyrese Sinclair and Bradley Stevenson netted in the opening twenty minutes; Stevenson was red-carded just 20 minutes later after picking up two yellow cards in the space of five minutes. Even with an extra man, the Iron failed to score, and Tyler French got a late goal to add insult to injury.

In the return fixture, at the Attis Arena, both sides battled out to a 3-3 six-goal thriller. Connor Wilkinson got a first-half brace to put the Moors two goals up at halftime. Danny Whitehall got one back shortly after the interval, and a Tyler French red card gave United more encouragement, and Whitehall bagged two more to complete his hat trick and put Scunthorpe 3-2 up. Isaac Moore got a 95th-minute equaliser to break Scunthorpe hearts and earn his side a point at the death.

Two players who could hurt Scunthorpe are Jacob Wakeling and Connor Wilkinson. Wilkinson got nine goals last season and hurt the Iron at the Attis Arena, bagging a brace, showing he could be a threat. Wakeling got 14 goal involvements last season with nine goals and five assists and is up and running this season with two goals already. Both attackers have the chance to be the star player for the Moors.

With both sides in poor form, it’s anyone’s match. United will be encouraged with their home advantage going into the match, hoping they can be spurred on by the 12th man.
