Scunthorpe United is delighted to confirm that James Moody has stepped up to the role of General Manager at the football club.

James has been part of the Iron family for many years, working tirelessly behind the scenes to support the club he cares deeply about, first writing a column in the programme at the age of 13 before starting as a media intern at 17 before being offered part-time and then full-time roles. During his 13 years employed so far at the club, he has worked closely across several departments and played a key role in the day-to-day running of the club. His experience, commitment, and understanding of Scunthorpe United’s values made him the natural choice to take on this new responsibility.

As General Manager, James will oversee the club’s operations and administration, supporting the Board, staff, and volunteers to ensure Scunthorpe United continues to move forward both on and off the pitch.

Speaking on his appointment, James said: “I’m honoured and excited to take on this role at a club that means so much to me. Scunthorpe United has been a huge part of my life, and as a supporter of the club as much as an employee, I’ve been on this journey for over 20 years from watching in the stand to being behind the scenes, experiencing the good, the bad and the ugly, and to now be trusted with such a responsibility is incredibly humbling.

“I’ve seen first-hand the commitment of our staff behind the scenes, and just how hard they’re working for the owners and the badge, the loyalty of our supporters that get behind us week-in, week-out, and the passion that runs through this football club. My aim is to make sure we keep building on that, working hard every single day to move the club in the right direction. There will be challenges, but with the backing of our fans and the dedication of everyone involved, I believe we continue with our progression in the right direction and make the Iron’s future a positive one.”

Michelle Harness added: James embodies what Scunthorpe United is all about. He knows the club inside out, he cares deeply for the badge, and he has shown time and time again that he is willing to go the extra mile to make this club successful. Over the years, he has earned the respect of staff, players, and supporters alike, not just through his professionalism but also through his passion and loyalty.

“We are delighted to see him step into the role of General Manager, and we are confident that his leadership, energy, and commitment will help drive this football club forward. James is exactly the kind of person we want representing Scunthorpe United, and we know he will continue to give his all for the badge.”

The club would like to congratulate James on his new position and wish him every success in this next chapter of his career with the Iron.

Over the coming weeks and months, James will transition into the new role, which will see him continue to head up the media operation, while some of his other roles will be shared among existing staff at the club, while undertaking a review of the day-to-day operation of the business.
