Scunthorpe United is pleased to confirm that the first phase of the club crest consultation has now concluded, with an excellent initial response from supporters.
A total of 779 fans took part in the survey, providing valuable feedback and views on the future of the club’s identity.
The club would like to thank every supporter who took the time to share their views. The level of engagement and passion demonstrated throughout this process highlights how deeply fans care about the club’s history and identity.
Scunthorpe United is keen to affirm this was just an initial engagement process to determine whether there was a desire to commence a full consultation.
The results of this first phase will now be reviewed in full by the club’s management, in association with the Voice of the Fans representatives. If the overall sentiment confirms a clear desire to explore a refresh or evolution of the crest, as it has done so far, Scunthorpe United will move to a second phase of consultation.
This next phase would include in-depth fan workshops, design presentations, and further opportunities for supporters to give feedback before any final decisions are made.
Club representatives emphasised that no change will take place without thorough consultation and supporter involvement at every stage of the process, and should the consultation result in a desire to remain with the current crest, no change will be made.
“This consultation was always about listening to our supporters first,” said General Manager James Moody.
“Having been part of the planning and execution for our 125th anniversary logo in recent years, it was clear there appeared to be a desire for a permanent change across a large cross-section of our supporters, and therefore we launched an initial consultation to gauge a rough percentage.
“We know that a return of 779 supporters does not full represent the size of the fanbase, nor does a return of 321 season ticket holders, but we’re encouraged by the feedback and the level of participation we've had in its initial stages, and also have in excess of 500 comments attached to the views given. This gives us a basis to kick off a more rounded consultation over the coming few months, which will involve a number of touchpoints, supporters groups and of course the Voice of the Fans, who will be able to directly liaise with anyone who wishes to communicate with them.
"Throughout the process, we do have guidance we have to follow from the Football Association, which will ratify any change that is submitted."
Chair and co-owner Michelle Harness added: “Any change to our crest, should supporters show their overall desire to do so, needs to reflect both our heritage and the values we carry into the future.
“This consultation is about listening to our supporters and the local community, so that any decision we make is rooted in the voices of those who care most about Scunthorpe United. We don’t want to make any changes without hearing from the people who make this football club what it is.”
Scunthorpe United will release further updates in due course once the findings have been fully reviewed and next steps are confirmed.
