Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce former Gainsborough Trinity marksman Declan Howe as our second signing of the summer.
Howe joins the Iron following back-to-back record-breaking campaigns for Russ Wilcox’s Holy Blues in which he accumulated 67 goals in all competitions. Last campaign, Howe finished the season second in both the Northern Premier League and Emirates FA Cup goalscoring charts, he even topped the leaderboard in the Isuzu FA Trophy with his impressive return of six goals during Gainsborough’s monumental cup run that saw them make the Round of 16.
Having come through the youth ranks at Scunthorpe before being released and falling into the non-league pyramid, the 27-year-old became a prolific goalscorer for the likes of Staveley Miners Welfare and Cleethorpes Town that earned him a move to National League North side Darlington FC, this was before transferring across to Alfreton Town for the second half of the 2022-23 season and later linking up former Scunthorpe manager Wilcox at Trinity.
The relentless forward joins Scunthorpe with a point to prove in his first season at a full-time club and will be aiming to maintain his goalscoring form in the National League.
Speaking after signing, Howe said: "I'm excited to be here and I'm looking forward to stepping onto the pitch and proving what I can do, hopefully doing well for the club and for the fans too.
"I've seen the reactions from the fans on social media, I'm looking forward to meeting them all, I appreciate the support I've had already and hopefully I can continue that and build a good relationship with the fans.
"It's where I started off when I was younger. To come back here later in my career is exciting. It's a great club and a big club and they got the promotion they deserved last season. I'm happy to be coming in off the back of that, and join the club on a high, and hopefully we can start the season off on a high too."
