Scunthorpe United can confirm that it is currently unlikely that the scheduled Enterprise National League home game against Morecambe on Tuesday, August 19th will go ahead as scheduled.
The Shrimps’ ongoing off-the-field issues resulted in a statement released by the National League as follows:
“The National League’s Compliance and Licensing Committee reconvened this afternoon (Monday) to debate the ongoing concerns surrounding Morecambe Football Club and its compliance with National League rules.
“Discussions regarding the Club's ability to meet its financial obligations for the 2025/2026 season have again taken place. It was decided further sanctions must be imposed, with the Club’s membership to be suspended with immediate effect.
“The Club will also remain under embargo ahead of the new season.
“Morecambe Football Club will also be removed from the National League Cup for the forthcoming season.
“The Committee will meet again on Wednesday August 20 to determine if outstanding items have been satisfied, and to decide the Club’s ability to retain membership in the Competition.”
Unless there is any movement from Morecambe before our scheduled fixture on August 19th, which removes the suspension, the fixture will be postponed.
It goes without saying, everyone at Scunthorpe United wishes Morecambe all the very best in its aims to solve their ongoing issues. Having been through our own issues in recent years, the news resonates with our club as much as any other, and we hope for a positive resolution in the near future.
We will communicate any further information we have to supporters if and when we receive it.
