Scunthorpe United is delighted to confirm defender Ross Barrows has put pen to paper on a contract extension until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old has returned to action in style in recent weeks, having sustained a serious injury 51 weeks ago to the day, in a 3-0 home win over King’s Lynn Town on New Year’s Eve 2024. Following the journey from operation through to the rehabilitation, with a plethora of highs and lows along the way, Barrows returned to action earlier this month, starting in the side’s National League Cup win over Newcastle United Under-21s.
The full-back, who has also been deployed in central defence since his return, quickly continued his match minutes with a return to league action in the 3-1 win over Tamworth, where he won a penalty before a stint in the 5-0 Isuzu FA Trophy win over Peterborough Sports. He then continued to build on his fitness in our Lincolnshire Senior Cup encounter against Grimsby Town. Making the league squad for the second time in the weekend’s win over Woking, Barrows was thrust into action at half-time in place of skipper Andrew Boyce, and did not look out of place at the heart of the United defence to contribute to a vital three points in Surrey.
Having worked extremely hard over a 10-month period post-operation, Barrows was given a deal until the end of 2025, with the hope and anticipation that he’d return for December, with the last four weeks dubbed as a more than successful trial period to extend his stay at the club.
Thus far in an Iron shirt, Barrows has made 47 appearances and scored three goals, and we look forward to there being many more in claret and blue.
Speaking about his extension, he said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. It’s been a long process and obviously I set my aims on achieving this deal, working hard and showing the management and the Board that I’m fit, I’m back and ready to play. Thankfully I’ve done that.
“I’ve tried to play my normal game, tried to impress and do what I can. The way I’ve come back in has fallen lucky for me to come in and get minutes, so to come back and hit the ground running the way I have has been good. I’ve done a lot of work away from here to get to where I am now.”
