The Iron are back in action this evening, hoping to get back to winning ways in the league, against a familiar foe in Tamworth. Last time out in the league, United were defeated 4-2 on the road, against Altrincham, after three late goals sank Andy Butler’s men. After a victory in the National League Cup against a Newcastle United U21’s team, Scunthorpe will be hoping to bounce back in style.
In the reverse fixture, United got their first victory of the season on opening day, returning to the
National League in style. Danny Whitehall opened the scoring with a stunning free kick inside
the opening five minutes of the match, scoring the first goal of the season. Haydn Hollis got an
equaliser in the 36th minute, before Oliver Ewing capped off a lovely team move with a smart
finish to score the winner just before half-time. Tamworth will be looking for revenge now, coming
to the Attis Arena.
Wins have been hard to come by for our opponents, with just one win in their last six league
games, Tamworth are in danger of really slipping down the table currently sat mid-table in 12th
place. With nine losses from their opening 21 games, eight wins and four draws, the visitors
have had mixed results in the league this season but their better form has come on the road.
Tamworth’s home form has been pretty pitiful with three wins, three draws and four losses at
home, but on the road the Lambs have picked up 16 points from 11 games, five wins, five losses
and one draw. Our opponents have proved they can pick up victories on the road and will bring
a strong challenge to the Attis Arena.
Two attackers who could hurt the Iron are Manny Duku and Beck-Ray Enoru. Enoru got just
three goals and four assists last season from 47 games, this season after just 23 matches the
winger has got four goals and three assists in all competitions, and has proved to be a threat.
Summer signing from Solihull Moors, Duku is in his first season at Tamworth is currently top
scorer with six goals and two assists from 21 league appearances. The Scunthorpe defence will
need to watch the duo, who will be desperate to pick up a surprise three points.
As the Iron look to get back to winning league games, after a run of three winless league games
matches, a struggling Tamworth side, also looking to rejuvenate their form, stand against them. A
victory for Scunthorpe would close the seven-point gap between Boreham Wood and the Iron to
just four points, whilst also moving away from Southend and Hartlepool, currently hot on the
tails of United.
