Scunthorpe United would like to remind all supporters that it is unacceptable to interfere with a match in progress. This includes entering the pitch, making contact with any on-field participant, or causing any delay to the game.
During Saturday’s home fixture against Tamworth, an incident occurred in the Mortz Stand where a supporter made physical contact with an opposition player as he prepared to take a throw-in. We must be clear that such behaviour is not permitted and can have serious consequences for the football club.
The individual responsible was immediately removed from the Attis Arena. However, because the incident took place, the match officials and FA observer are required to submit a report, which the club must now respond to. This uses valuable time and resources, and ultimately may result in charges being brought against the club.
Scunthorpe United is committed to ensuring that all players, staff, opponents, and match officials feel safe at the Attis Arena. We take any breach of this very seriously. The supporter involved has been issued with an indefinite stadium ban while a full investigation and the FA’s process are underway.
The actions of a single individual can lead to sanctions from the Football Association. We therefore remind all supporters that inappropriate behaviour, whether at home or away fixtures, can result in the club facing charges. Such sanctions can have significant financial consequences and may even lead to capacity restrictions or points deductions.
