Scunthorpe United would like to remind supporters the importance of their conduct when we travel to Rochdale this evening.
Under regulations set by the the Football Association, clubs are accountable for the behaviour of their fans both home and away. The actions of a single individual can therefore result in formal charges against the club. Such charges may lead to significant financial penalties, restrictions on ticket allocations, stadium capacity limitations, or, in the most serious cases, sporting sanctions.
We are proud of the passionate support shown by our fans across the country and must reenforce that it is only ever the minority who cause any issues. On the whole, your support home and away has been exemplary, and we urge that to continue this evening.
With around 1,000 Iron supporters travelling to Rochdale, we must acknowledge the absolutely magnificent backing we have travelling to get behind us, but we must remind supporters to do just that. It only takes one supporter to let us down, and therefore cause charges against us.
Behaviour that breaches ground regulations, including the use of pyrotechnics, entering the field of play, throwing objects, discriminatory language or gestures, or any other anti-social conduct, puts the club at risk and will not be tolerated.
The club is working closely with Rochdale this evening, with supporters likely to see some familiar stewarding faces this evening, with a handful of our team journeying to Spotland to supplement the home club's safety team. Should any incidents occur this evening, we will work closely with the relevant authorities and will take appropriate internal action where individuals are identified, including the possibility of bans.
We ask all supporters travelling to tonight's game to represent Scunthorpe United with pride, respect fellow fans and staff, and ensure their support remains positive.
