The Iron are back on the road for an away day at Sutton, as they look to maintain their
impressive run of form in the league. After success in the season opener, United faced
Woking at home and won in convincing fashion. Declan Howe got a first half double to
put Scunthorpe two up going into half time and get himself off the mark for the Iron.
Danny Whitehall clinched the third with just over twenty minutes left on the clock, before
the visitors got a consolation scoring from a corner. Andy Butler’s side travel to London
to face off against our opponents who are coming off the back of a difficult defeat, after a
slow start to the National League.
Sutton United had a positive opening day after travelling to last season’s promotion chasers
York, they grabbed an 87th minute equaliser to take a point back home. In the National League
Cup against Fulham U21’s, their defensive weakness was evident as they were defeated 7-0.
They faced Solihull Moors at home and failed to break the deadlock against them, drawing 0-0,
before losing 4-0 away to Forest Green Rovers in midweek. With The U’s yet to have grabbed a
victory this season, and gone three matches without a goal scored, the Iron will be confident
travelling to the VBS Community Stadium.
Last season Sutton finished mid-table in 12th place finishing the season with 60 points, a couple
of players who were key that season are Ashley Nadesan, and Lewis Simper. 30 year old
attacker, Nadesan finished the season with eight goals scored and seven assists for his side,
making himself a strong source of goals for the U’s. Goal grabbing midfielder Lewis Simper was
fantastic for Sutton last season, he scored nine goals from midfield, and also assisted six goals.
Both players are yet to register a goal and assist this season, but both will be hoping to get their
names back on the scoresheet and have previously shown the damage they can cause in this
division, making them a real threat.
Both sides will be desperate to get three points as the Iron chase their third consecutive league
win, and hope to make up points in the table after the midweek clash against Morecambe was
cancelled due to their ownership issues. Sutton will see three points as vital, as they are yet to
have a victory and are coming off the back of a very heavy defeat they will be desperate to get
back to winning ways in front of a home crowd.
