Iron first team manager Andy Butler has been handed the Vanarama National League North manager of the month accolade for August following the side's almost perfect start.

The Iron won five and drew one of their six games in the opening month of the campaign, scoring 14 goals along the way, conceding just once, as United ended the month at the summit of the table.

In doing so, Butler had made the joint best start to management of any former manager, a start also enjoyed by Mick Buxton back in 1987, while it is also the club's best start to a season, only equalled to both 1954 and 1957.

Already into September, United have four points on the board, having taken maximum points and another clean sheet from fellow promotion chasers Curzon Ashton, before being held to a 1-1 draw with Warrington Town.
