Andy Butler and John Schofield pen contract extensions

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce first team manager Andy Butler and assistant manager John Schofield have penned new contracts, extending their stay at the club until the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.

In the league, the duo have lead the team to an impressive start, with the Iron sitting top of the Vanarama National League North, three points clear of their nearest rivals following the first nine games. That included an eight-game unbeaten start which included six wins and two draws, with only two goals conceded in the process.

Butler, 40, returned to the club in the autumn of 2022, taking a role as Youth Development Phase Coach within the academy before moving over to the first team as a coach under Jimmy Dean before succeeding him as manager in the summer. As a player, he featured for the club over two spells, firstly between 2002 and 2008 before a return in 2019-20.

Meanwhile Schofield, 59, returned for his second stint in the summer having previously been assistant to Russ Wilcox in the 2014-15 campaign. The duo had previously crossed paths at Doncaster Rovers, with Butler stating that Schofield was his immediate choice for his assistant upon being offered the job in the summer.

Co-owner and CEO Michelle Harness alludes to the new deals for the duo in her pre-match statement, which will be released later today, as we build towards celebrating one year since taking ownership of the club.
