Scunthorpe United is delighted to welcome striker Will Harris in a loan swap deal with Spennymoor Town, which sees Sam Fishburn head in the opposite direction.
24-year-old Harris began his initial youth career at Hebburn Town before being picked up by Burnley in 2017. He would go on to sign a professional contract with the Clarets, making a total of three appearances for the side in amongst loan spells at Nelson, Colne and Warrington Town.
While with the Yellows, he would net four goals in nine games, and that would come after an even more prolific stint at Cole where he got nine goals in 12 appearances. His prolific goalscoring would earn him a move to Sunderland, where he would be handed his professional debut in October 2021 in a 2-1 win over Lincoln City in the EFL Trophy. His senior professional league debut would come 11 days later in a 2-1 win over Gillingham.
A loan spell to Barrow would follow before he signed for Gateshead for the 2022-23 season, making a total of 27 appearances for the side who were newly promoted to the National League.
He would make the move to Spennymoor a year later, and scored 16 goals in 45 league appearances, 33 of which were starts for the Moors in his debut campaign at the club. So far this season, he’s started just five games and eight substitute appearances, registering three assists in his near-600 minutes of competitive football.
Meanwhile, recently turned 21-year-old Fishburn heads up to Brewery Field in a search for more minutes having scored two goals in 15 games for the Iron, three of which starts, since leaving Fleetwood Town in the summer.
Prior to being with the Cod Army, Fishburn was at Carlisle United, and enjoyed a number of loan spells including Lancaster City and Morpeth Town.
We wish Sam all the best for his loan spell away from the Attis Arena, as he links up with midfielder Fin Shrimpton also at Spennymoor on loan, and welcome Will to the club as he becomes eligible to feature in Saturday’s encounter against Alfreton Town.
The agreement between the clubs will see the two players loaned out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, though both deals are subject to a recall after the first 28 days.
