Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of forward Mark Beck from National League side Solihull Moors on a permanent transfer.
The 30-year-old’s loan at Gateshead has been terminated in order for the 6ft, 5in target man to arrive at the Attis Arena after a number of weeks tracking, watching and pursuing him.
Starting his career at Carlisle United, Beck turned professional in 2012, enjoying loan spells at Workington and Falkirk over the course of his three-year stay at Brunton Park. He would then have spells at Yeovil Town and Wrexham before spending a campaign at Darlington in 2016-17, where he would score 19 in 53 appearances - his first experience of National League North.
Harrogate Town would be his next move in 2017-18, where he would assists the Sulphurites from this level through to League Two, winning promotion in his first season, scoring 10 goals in 26 appearances. In 2019-20, he would score six in 33 games as the side made it to the EFL. Across his five years, he would net 34 in 150 appearances, also enjoying a loan spell at York City, again at National League North level, with six goals in 25 appearances.
He’d have a prolific campaign with Darlington in 2022-23 at this level, scoring 18 in 28 appearances. He was the league’s top goalscorer by January and helped the side to third place in the table. As a result, Solihull Moors would meet the release terms of his contract, becoming his latest club.
He would score a brace at Wembley Stadium in May 2024, as Solihull Moors drew 2-2 with Gateshead in the FA Trophy Final last season, among a total of 13 goals he’s scored for the side. Ultimately his side lost on penalties and were therefore runners-up of the competition.
So far this season, he’s spent time on loan at Gateshead, scoring his first goal for the side on his second outing in a 2-0 away win at Woking.
Beck also has international pedigree at under-19 level, representing Scotland on three occasions back in 2013. He would make his debut, and score a goal, against Sweden, and would subsequently receive a call-up to the under-21s, but did not feature for the side.
Beck arrives at the Iron to bolster the side’s attacking options after a sustained period of interest in acquiring the experience attacker’s signature, and he becomes eligible to wear claret and blue for the first time in Saturday’s Isuzu FA Trophy encounter against Warrington Rylands.
