Kian Scales aiming to get back on track against Scarborough

16 February 2024

Workhorse midfielder Kian Scales looks ahead to Saturday’s encounter with Scarborough Athletic at the Flamingo Land Stadium, as the Iron look to amend their recent results.

Firstly, Scales reflected on last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Curzon Ashton by saying: “It was a disappointing result last weekend. I think that, at home, we haven’t put in too many of those performances, and we don’t want to become associated with those kinds of performances in the future.

“I think we’ve had a good reflection on the performance, straight after the game and on Monday as well, so I think given the good week of training that we’ve had we all seem ready to put it right on Saturday.”

Given the Iron have not had a Tuesday night fixture over the course of this week, it has allowed the side to get back on the training ground. Reflecting on the fixture-free week, he continued: “It probably has been beneficial to us because of the new lads that have come in during that time. It’s been a good week for getting them up to speed in the patterns that we aim to play, so its probably put us in a good position leading up to Saturday.”

With United making three new additions to the squad in the week leading up to the Scarborough encounter, Scales gave an insight into how the new signings have settled into life in claret and blue: “I think they’ve all settled in really well and we’ve got a great bunch of lads here who have welcomed them all in. Obviously, it's healthier competition for places because having someone playing well in training behind you pushes you to play harder for your shirt on a Saturday.”

The Seadogs and the Iron met at the Attis Arena back in early August when Scunthorpe triumphed 4-1 winners. When asked, Scales looked back on that day to remember what to expect from Jonathan Greening’s Scarborough side: “I remember that the fans packed it out and I remember we put in a really good performance putting four past them in the process. Hopefully we can look back on that game when we were free scoring and creating a lot of chances and take that performance into tomorrow.”
