WRITTEN INTERVIEW: The Iron's latest addition Hugh Parker on joining the club on loan from Hull City

The Iron’s latest addition Hugh Parker gives his first thoughts after joining the club on loan from Premier League side Hull City.

Firstly, when responding to an initial question on his reaction to joining the club, Parker replied: "I'm really excited to be here, it's been a long time coming now, being injured was obviously delaying the loan from going through but I'm back at full fitness now and I'm excited to get going here"

When talking about the conversations he'd had with Manager Andy Butler upon joining the club, the Irishman responded by saying: "The gaffer just prepared for me coming in, we were in constant contact during my recovery recently and he spoke highly about all the lads as well as the staff at the club, so now I'm just really excited to get going and to see what I can achieve this season."

Upon being asked a question around the type of player he is and what he sees his role to be in the Scunthorpe United team during his time at the club, he replied: "I want to come in and bring as much competition to the rest of the strikers as possible but also give it a bit more like energy up top, I suppose. By adding this energy hopefully I can add some goals as well.

"Obviously I like to think I'll be the classic big man striker, I'm energetic up top and I do a lot of running, so hopefully I can add some goals to the team and to my tally."

Having spent the second half of last season on loan with fellow National League side Carlisle United, Parker reflected on his time with the Cumbrians by adding: "it was amazing at Carlisle, they're another big club for the level and also have a big fan base as well. I enjoyed it there, but it's a new season now and I'm ready to make my mark."

Having joined Hull City in the February of 2025, the forward spoke about his time with the Tigers so far: "First of all when you're moving to a club from Ireland it's obviously going to be a big change, there's a new schedule to adapt to and a new group of players to get to know, but all the lads have helped me to settle in so far and I'm really enjoying myself, I love it!"

Different to many young loan players, Parker joins the Iron with a large amount of first team appearances under his belt during his time with UCD AFC: " I started off at the age of 17 playing men's football, the second division back in Ireland, so I had a bit of experience back then which 100% put me in good stead for the English game. Obviously I spent some time at Carlisle last season, so I have a bit of experience now in the men's league, so hopefully I can use that to push on this season"

"The second division in Ireland's a high quality as well, it's very aggressive, like a lot of men's football there and here, so hopefully I can bring that over into my game. Obviously I felt it with Carlisle last season, there is a high standard of football in the National League, which I think I adapted to quite well."

Looking ahead to the Iron's next encounter in the league against fellow predicted front runners Southend United, Parker looked ahead to the game by saying: "I'm really excited for that game in particular, it's going to be a big crowd with a high stakes feel to it. I'm ready for it and I think it'll be a good early test for myself if I play."

Finally, Parker spoke around his goals for the season and what he intends to achieve during his loan spell with experienced strikers around him in the dressing room: "I'm always looking to learn off the lads, Danny Whitehall's obviously an experienced striker at this level, so I'll 100% be looking to just learn everything I can from him."

"Hopefully, with that in mind I can take that experience and advice and try and add the goals to my game and help the team as much as I can with the goal of promotion that we want to achieve."
