Scunthorpe United’s chair and co-owner Michelle Harness addresses supporters ahead of the Iron’s third kit launch this morning…

The trio is complete! It’s been a rollercoaster ride over the last eight months, from concept to design, and then production of the videos. To be able to see the kits progress from the birth of a few ideas to being produced by Kelme, and now over 1,000 shirts out there being worn day-in, day-out, it makes me incredibly proud, especially knowing the work that’s gone in behind the scenes to get tot his stage.

We’re humbled with how the home and away kits have been received. Both are a true Iron rewind, and bring so many memories back for so many people. A return of stripes is also massive for the club, as we all know how much fans love having them, and hold a number of significant memories from them. We cannot wait to see them all being worn at the Attis Arena for the first time this weekend in when we host Marine.

We acknowledge once more the hard work of Aaron Cheeseman, Pete Hewes and Mitchell Blades for their work with the videos, which have also been well received.

The third kit is something completely different, something that brings the town, the community and the football club together. From nearly losing the football club, to our industrial history within the town, the kit really does recognise what we are all about. It is Scunthorpe as much as it is Scunthorpe United.

All the credit for all three shirts goes to James Moody. When we took ownership of the club, he was desperate to mark our 125th anniversary with a season to remember, and that started with a temporary badge and then three kits to be proud of. He’s done just that with what he’s produced, and exceeded expectations with the outcome, and these kits will be one of the many legacies he leaves working for the club.

I’ve seen many comments over the past few weeks where people have stated that they don’t normally buy shirts, but they are because they love the designs, and I’ve had many people stop me and say that they’re the best kits the club have ever produced. All of these are just individual opinions, but these statements, and actions, are the biggest praise that James can have for what’s been produced.

We’ve had a fantastic start on the pitch, but as Andy Butler quite rightly said, it’s one game and only the start. We’re all hoping that success will occur, which will add further legacy to these fantastic kits.

Saturday is just around the corner now, and we hope that each and every one of you will be at the game to cheer on the lads as we look to build on our start. The first home game of a new season is always an exciting one, and it’s made even more special when the stadium is bouncing through your support.

Up the Iron!
Michelle
