Jack Jenkins: I want to be part of it

8 September 2023

Midfielder Jack Jenkins is looking forward to the second loan spell of his career, as he looks to hit the ground running while with the club from Leeds United.

Speaking following his arrival ahead of the home league encounter against Buxton, he said: “I’m delighted to be here. The gaffer spoke to my agent and has said really good things. He wants me to be involved, and I just can’t wait to get started.

“Where the club is at, going for promotion, and winning a lot of games - I just want to be part of that.”

The 21-year-old is a natural talent, and is able to play in midfield in a number of roles. He gave United fans an insight of what they can expect when he pulls on the claret and blue jersey.

“I’ve got a lot of energy and like to get up and down,” he continued.

“I like to dictate the game, get on the ball and spray passes through. I can play deep and do a box-to-box job as well.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t work out at Salford. It was my first loan, and I learnt a lot about myself. Hopefully, I can take that previous experience into this loan spell, and make it better for myself.”

Having come through the entire system at Leeds United, the youngster has nothing but gratitude for the journey he’s been on.

“I’ve been there since I was five or six years old, so I’ve been there my whole life,” he added.

“I’ve got to give a lot of credit to them. I’ve seen a lot of change, a lot of different managers and playing styles. Hopefully, I can bring my experiences, and what I’ve learned, here.

“My main target is to play as many games as I can, and perform in every game that I can.

“I need to work hard in training and show the gaffer and staff what I can do. Hopefully, I can get into the team and kick on. I’ve loved (being in for training). It’s a great atmosphere with the lads, and it’s winning ways at the moment, so everyone is positive. We’ve got to take that into tomorrow.

“I came to the game on Tuesday against South Shields. The atmosphere was brilliant on a Tuesday night.”

Meanwhile, first team manager Jimmy Dean was delighted to acquire Jenkins' services for the next few months.

Speaking in his pre-Buxton press conference, he said: "I think he's a great coup for the club.

"He's certainly the mould of player that I want here. He can use the ball really well in midfield. He moves a lot. Marco Bielsa gave him a three-year deal. He went into Salford and played 11 games, but picked up an injury at Christmas. When he came back in March, they were in the mix for promotion, and he didn't quite get back in.

"His agent is a great football man in Richard Cresswell. He came down to watch us against Scarborough because he's got a couple of players here. He was very impressed with the performance and he can see the size of the club and the fans he will play in front of.

"It's a good fit for all parties."
