Iron welcome Jack Jenkins on loan from Leeds United

8 September 2023

Scunthorpe United is delighted to welcome midfielder Jack Jenkins on loan from Championship side Leeds United.

The 21-year-old arrives at Glanford Park to further bolster the Iron’s options in the centre of the park, with the initial period running through until January.

Typically a box-to-box midfielder who can also play as a defensive midfielder, he came through the entire academy in Yorkshire after playing for Garforth Villa at a very young age. Having signed a two-year scholarship in April 2018, was rewarded with his first professional contract at the start of 2019.

Jenkins signed another contract 10 months later, extending his stay until the end of 2022-23 before extending that once more in recent times.

His first taste of professional football saw him feature for the Under-21s in the EFL Trophy against Barrow before he was first named on the first team substitutes bench in November 2020 for the game against Crystal Palace. Just two months later, he made his senior debut in the FA Cup as a half-time substitute.

Last season, the midfielder spent time on loan at Salford City, scoring on his debut at the Peninsula Stadium in the EFL Trophy against Liverpool Under-21s. The goal proved to be the winner, as the Ammies triumphed 2-1. He would go on to make a total of 11 appearances in all competitions for the side.

Jenkins’ arrival is subject to National League approval and FA ratification.
