Scunthorpe United is delighted to have completed the loan signing of Heart of Midlothian midfielder Connor Smith with a view to a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old arrives at Glanford Park, following his five-year association with the Scottish Premier League side where he made his senior debut in May 2018 against Kilmarnock.

Representing his native Scotland at four youth levels, Smith is currently an Under-21 international with two caps to his name at that age category. Previously, he’s accrued eight caps, scoring twice, at Under-16 level, 10 caps at Under-17 level and two at Under-18 level.

During the half-decade stint at Tynecastle, he enjoyed loans to Cowdenbeath, Arbroath, Cove Rangers, Queen’s Park and Hamilton Academical.

At Cowdenbeath, he made 15 appearances, scoring twice in the Scottish League Two before seven appearances in all competitions for Scottish Championship side Arbroath in 2020-21. In the same season, he made 12 appearances for Scottish League One side Cove Rangers.

In 2021-22, he returned to Scottish League One and made his most impressionable return so far, scoring five goals in 34 appearances for Queen’s Park.

Last season saw him loaned to Scottish Championship side Hamilton Academical, where he made 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals.

The transfer is subject to international clearance, as well as league and FA ratification.
