Tyler Denton becomes latest summer recruit

16 May 2023

Scunthorpe United is delighted to have completed the signing of versatile defender Tyler Denton on a one-year deal, effective from 1st July 2023.

He joins the Iron after leaving King's Lynn Town, where he got to the semi-finals of the National League North play-offs this season following a strong year where they constantly pushed at the top of the division.

The 27-year-old started his career with Leeds United, after graduating through their academy, and made three senior appearances for the Elland Road side, scoring once, as well as having spells away on loan at Port Vale in League Two and Peterborough United in League One.

A stint in League Two with Stevenage followed before he joined King's Lynn during the 2020-21 campaign, where he made a total of 92 appearances at his last club, including 35 this season, and scored on three occasions.

Denton has made a total of 154 senior career appearances so far, scoring on four occasions.

Upon signing for the Iron, he said: "I'm delighted to sign. It was a good year at King's Lynn, missing out on automatic promotion by a couple of points and then losing in the play-offs. I feel like that experience has helped me and I've come here to go one step better and take this great club straight back up.

"I play everywhere really - left-back, wing-back, centre-back and midfield. I like to keep the ball and I like to be a leader on the pitch and try to excite the fans. The gaffer's ambition and aim is partly what has brought me here as well. We want to go straight back up and hopefully we can do that at the first time of asking."
