Fewer miles to travel to support the Iron in 2023-24

15 May 2023

United will travel miles completing their National League North fixtures next season - 2,286 less than in the last campaign in fact.

Last season, the team travelled 7,322 miles to complete their 23 regular away league games, but they will travel 5,036 to take on the sides in the National League North next season.

The regionalised nature of the division means United have no trips to face teams over 200 miles away, which results in a significant number of miles reduced from the scheduling. Coupled with that, there are 11 teams in a radius of 100-miles from Glanford Park, compared to six last season.

The shortest trip of the season will see Scunthorpe face former manager Russ Wilcox’s current side Farsley Celtic, while one mile further in distance will take us to Alfreton Town, a side that visited Glanford Park in 2008 in the FA Cup.

The league sees Scunthorpe face Boston United in the league for the first time since 2005, although they will be travelling to their brand new stadium for the first time in the third shortest trip of the campaign.

Just like last season, there will be one trip out of the country to Wales, with the border running through the Deva Stadium in Chester. Meanwhile, there are seven trips longer than that encounter including a return to South Shields following last season’s FA Cup tie.

The longest trip of the season will see the Iron return to Edgar Street to face Hereford, a phoenix club of Hereford United whom Scunthorpe last faced in 2009. One mile less in terms of distance and United will be at Gloucester City.
