Rance looking to put a run of results together

31 March 2023

Midfielder Dean Rance has reflected on his time at the Iron so far and looked ahead to Saturday's home game against Torquay United in the Vanarama National League, where he could potentially make his Glanford Park debut for us.

The recent arrival began by speaking about Tuesday night's away draw with York City, saying: “It was disappointing that we didn’t get the win. I thought we had more than enough chances, especially in the first half, to go and win the game. It was important we didn’t lose the match, but it’s getting to that stage of the season. Earlier on in the season a draw away from home is a good point, but the games are running out now and we need to be winning. We need to bounce back on Saturday with a win.”

Next, Rance reflected on his first full week at the Iron. He said: “I’ve really enjoyed it, the boys have been brilliant and made me feel really welcome. Since I’ve come in I’ve realised what a massive club this is, and I just want to play my part in making sure we stay in this division."

He added: “The group at Scunthorpe is a very strong, very good group. It’s been brilliant and the boys have been really good, it’s a very close group with a good team spirit. They deserve to get the wins and hopefully we can stay up.”

The season is coming towards its close and Rance spoke about finishing well in the battle for survival, saying: “We know the games are running out and we’re not going to hide behind the fact that we know we need to start winning games and getting back-to-backs. We have to make the home record as strong as we can, pick up the points away from home, and start putting pressure on the teams above us. We can only concentrate on ourselves now, we can’t look at other teams to do us a favour, we have to control what we can control, and win as many games as we can going into the end of the season.”

The midfielder then spoke about the importance of Saturday's huge fixture. He said: “Both teams know what they need to do and both teams are going to be coming to win, a draw won’t help either team. We’re fully confident that we can get the win, get the points that are needed to put pressure on the teams above us, and start climbing up the table.”

Rance has played at Glanford Park before when at Dagenham & Redbridge, but is excited to be on the right side of the Iron fans this weekend. He said: “That was one of the main things that drew me to the club. The fans deserve something to cheer about, they deserve a good end to the season, and we’re just hoping we can give them the three points to start it off. We need to get together and put a run of games together to climb out of the position we’re in.”
