Butterfield talks ahead of a massive final 10 games

14 March 2023

Jacob Butterfield has reflected on the week gone by and looked ahead to Tuesday night's trip to take on Solihull Moors in the Vanarama National League.

The midfielder began by reflecting on the break from action since the 2-0 win over Altrincham, saying: “It’s been good to have a break as we’ve had three weeks of back-to-back Saturday-Tuesday games, and we were starting to feel a bit of fatigue, but it was good to end that run of games with a win. We’ve had a couple of days to refresh a bit and we’re ready to go again on Tuesday."

He continued to speak about last Tuesday's hard fought win, explaining: “It was an important game for us for obvious reasons, so it was really good to get that win and it sets us up nicely for the final ten fixtures.”

Jacob then spoke a bit more about the second half performance last week, saying: “We stepped forward. We’d tweaked a couple of tactical issues that we didn’t get right in the first half and came out much better in the second. We got a foothold in the game, nullified what they were trying to do, and that allowed us to win the ball back higher up the pitch and have more of it. We got the two goals which was enough on the night, so a big win for us.”

Without a game on Saturday, the lads went bowling at the weekend, and Butterfield enjoyed the team bonding. He explained: “It was nice to do something in a different environment, it’s the first time we’ve done that all season, seeing people outside of the football environment. It was good fun and a nice afternoon. We were then back out there on Monday morning preparing for Tuesday's game.”

When asked if he was any good at bowling, Jacob said: “I’m not the best to be fair. There were a few good bowlers, but I wasn’t one of them!"

The midfielder then spoke further about the Solihull game and the prospect of getting a second away win. He said: “All these last ten games are massive for us. Every game is important and that starts on Tuesday. We got that first away win a couple of weeks ago, but we haven’t had back-to-back wins this season, so that’s the target. If we’re going to get out of trouble then we need to achieve that in our last ten.”

He finished: “Another big game for us but we’re going into it positively, and we feel we can go there and get the win. Hopefully, we can put on a good performance and get a much needed three points.”
