Ross Barrows enjoying life back at the Iron

New addition, defender Ross Barrows speaks on his return to the club and how he feels he’s fared in the opening week of pre-season.

“Everyone knows Scunthorpe United. It’s a football league club and that’s shown in the way that the club is still run. After one conversation with the gaffer, I knew that this is where I wanted to be.

“Having been here as a kid, I’ve now come full circle and feel as though there’s a lot to prove as it’s a chance to show what kind of player I am.

“It feels like home to be honest. Having joined a new club last year, it was a bit difficult for me, but I feel I’ve slotted in really well here as I already know some of the lads.

“The aim is to win the league, it’s as simple as that. The journey to the football league starts now. All the lads know that, and we all want to work hard and have the right mentality to get there.

When asked how he’s found the first week back he continued: “It’s been a great week all the lads have been at it and it’s a great group off the pitch too. Everyone’s eating together, in the gym together and having a bit of banter here and there. It’s been absolutely superb.

“In term of what I can bring to the team, I’m an out-and-out defender who can try chip in with a few goals, but I like to keep balls out of the net putting my body on the line if I need to. There’s a lot of competition for places and come August 5th, everyone wants to be in that starting XI.”
