The 18-year-old leaves the Iron to return to his hometown club where he had a stint training in his younger academy days. His departure from United ends a seven-year affiliation on the south side of the River Humber, having joined the club in 2016.
Foster made his professional debut in April 2022 when Scunthorpe hosted Hartlepool United, drawing 1-1, being awarded man of the match following the game following a string of fine saves - only losing his clean sheet to a penalty. It was in the same month he penned his first professional contract with the club, signing on the dotted line while he was still just a first year scholar.
He would go onto make a further 11 appearances for United in the 2022-23 season having originally been understudy to Sheffield United loanee Marcus Dewhurst. Coming into the side in December, during those games, he managed something the club hadn’t managed all season in keeping a clean sheet, with three of those games seeing the shotstopper prevent the ball breaching the Scunthorpe rearguard, allowing the club to attain seven points across those trio of games.
Foster would drop out of the side in February to Aaron Chapman and then Tom Billson, but would play the final three games of the Vanarama National League season against Aldershot Town, Southend United and Dorking Wanderers.
Scunthorpe United would like to thank Owen for his services to the club during his time with us and wish him all the best for his career in the game.
