The 32-year-old signed for Steve Evans for a third time in the summer, this time joining Stevenage, but hasn’t been able to force his way into the team over the course of the campaign so far. In joining Scunthorpe, he’s hoping to do just that and put a frustrating period on the sidelines behind him.
Speaking after joining the club, he told Iron Player: “(I’m) absolutely buzzing to finally get it over the line. I think I heard of interest at the end of last week. As soon as I heard the club were interested, I just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible.
“It’s not been ideal, my time at Stevenage, but hopefully I can come here, play games and get us higher up the league.
“There’s been a lot (of positivity) with the takeover and the new manager, and I’m just happy to be part of the project."
With the signing completed late on Monday, Chapman didn’t arrive in time to meet his new teammates, but did speak to manager Jimmy Dean ahead of his arrival, with experience key to him coming to Glanford Park.
“He just wants me to come in and bring what I’m about basically,” he continued.
“That’s experience. I love to play football ideally. That’s not what has happened over the last year really, but I’ve come here to play and to show everyone what I can do.
“You can always do little things better, but I’ve got that experience from the amount of time I’ve been a professional, so I’m hoping to bring that to this group.”
The eighth signing of the new era, Chapman brings confidence and positivity, and feels the side can do what it takes to get out of the drop zone.
“To get out of the situation that we’re in now, we’re going to need everyone,” he stated.
“There’s a good goalkeeper here at the minute and we’re going to push each other. If we are doing that, it’s going to bring out the best of us and if it brings out the best of us, it’s only going to be a benefit to the team.
“I’m here to be positive around the place. Times like this are tough. I’ve been in it myself and you’ve got to be positive. If you’re positive, it brings positivity around the group and that’ll show on the pitch.
“I know a couple of lads here, but it’ll be nice to get in with the group. I know Reagan (Ogle) and Colin (Daniel). Reagan was only a kid when I was with him (at Accrington), but he’s forged himself a good career so far.”
