Bunker looks to make instant Iron impact

Forest Green Rovers midfielder Harvey Bunker gave his reaction to Iron Player after completing a loan move to United until the end of the season.

He began by saying: “I’m really glad to be here. I want to get some games under my belt, and help the team get out of the relegation zone. The ground looks amazing, and I’ve heard there are good supporters, so it’s great to be here."

When asked to describe the lure of joining United, he said: “I think it’s renowned to be quite a big club, which gets a big following, so for me it was something that stood out with the opportunity to come and play.

“There are signings coming in, which I think hearing that shows we’re trying to push in the right direction, and I want to be on board.”

The 19-year-old has been with parent club Forest Green Rovers since 2019, with loans away at Chippenham Town and Weymouth in prior seasons too.

Describing himself as a midfielder, he explained: “I’m a box-to-box midfielder, who can play holding midfielder and centre half, which is quite diverse but mainly I want to be playing in midfield.

“I’m good in the air, good at tackling and a good ball player really.”

Bunker has made nine League One appearances this season with Forest Green, but is hoping to kick-on in claret and blue to get the club going again.

He said: “I want to come in and straight away and make an impact to hopefully get the team pushing for three points each game, and slowly get out of the relegation zone.

“It’s got to be everyone’s goal at the end of the day. There’s no reason not to believe that we can do it.”

Briefly looking ahead to Friday night under the lights, when United take on Barnet, he said: “It’ll be good to see what the fans are like, and I’m definitely excited to meet all of the lads and get involved.”
