Iron sign Aiden Marsh on loan from Barnsley

12 September 2022

Scunthorpe United is delighted to have completed the loan signing of highly-rated forward Aiden Marsh from League One side Barnsley until January.

Marsh, aged 19, joined the Tykes in October 2014 after leaving Sheffield United, excelling at all ages groups en route to a professional contract.

He scored three times for the Under-18s in their Professional Development League campaign in 2018-19 and was rewarded with his Under-23s debut against Bolton Wanderers in September 2018 aged just 15.

The forward would soon be recognised in-and-around the first team set-up and was selected as part of Daniel Stendel’s pre-season training camps to France and Germany in the following season.

The success in the year would continue for Marsh as he made the England Under-17s selection in November 2019 for a training camp. It was in that campaign that he also scored his first Under-23s goal in January 2020 as Barnsley beat Burnley 4-1 at the Oakwell Training Ground.

Injuries stalled his progression in 2020-21, but Marsh would return fighting last season, forcing his way into first team thinking. He made his professional debut as a 78th minute substitute in a 1-0 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth before he marked his first start with his first goal in April 2022. His 16th minute strike would see Barnsley taken the lead against Preston North End with Marsh playing 66 minutes of the game.

So far this season, the 19-year-old has been utilised on six occasions for the Yorkshire side, with two of those being starts. He joins the Iron with 11 senior appearances and one goal to his name.
