Nuttall: I'll work tirelessly to repay the fans

6 May 2022

Striker Joe Nuttall has reiterated his apology to Iron supporters as he prepares for Saturday's trip to take on Bristol Rovers.

Published on his social media account on Bank Holiday Monday, the 25-year-old striker expressed regret for his actions during last weekend's home game against Hartlepool United.

Speaking further to the press on Thursday, Nuttall said: "It was completely out of character and something I'm deeply ashamed of. That will never happen again. I'd once more like to apologise to the fans and let them know that I'll be working tirelessly to come back and be in the best condition I can be to help the team going forward.

"The support from the fans I received after the statement on Monday, especially after doing something like that, was amazing. It really does motivate me to be better and work hard to come back and repay them for that.

"All I can do is let the football do the talking, try to put that behind me and hope for a successful season next year."

Looking ahead to this weekend's trip to face Joey Barton's Bristol Rovers, who could win promotion to League One with victory on the day, Nuttall added: "They can get automatic promotion if they win but we want to end the season on a positive note, and I'm personally desperate to get a goal, especially after last week to try and repay the fans.

"They'll be going all guns blazing, but we'll go out there, give our all and hopefully end the season positively.

"If we can perform well and show what we're about, it will give the fans encouragement for what we can achieve next season.

"I think we've done well in the last few games, we should have had some wins, but the young lads have acquitted themselves magnificently when given a chance.

"If the young players are given another chance on Saturday I'm sure they will grab it and keep proving why they'd deserve to be in the team."

Nuttall concluded by looking ahead to next season, saying: "Nobody wants to be relegated and that's motivation enough to get this club back to where it deserves to be. We'll give our all to get back there."
