Daniel eager to get started

13 July 2022

The Iron’s latest recruit Colin Daniel is looking forward to getting started at his new club following a successful spell on trial.

The former Exeter City player arrived at Glanford Park on Monday for a week-long trial and was quickly rewarded with a contract to become Keith Hill’s fifth summer signing.

Reacting to the move on Iron Player, he said: “I’m happy to be here. I was aware of the interest last week.

“I’ve played against the manager a few times, so I’m happy to be here and I’m eager to get started. I’ve been here three days now and enjoyed it. The lads are great."

The 34-year-old brings a wealth of versatility to the squad, with the ability to play down the left side including left-back and left-wing, along with a role up front, if required.

Speaking about what he can bring to the team, he continued: “I can play in a number of positions, and that probably helped the gaffer’s decision in signing me. If I can help in any position, I’m happy to do so.

“I don’t mind playing up top, but I prefer to play left-back. If I’m up top though, I like to score goals. I want to contribute anywhere I can on the pitch.”

Daniel’s last parent club was Exeter City, who enjoyed promotion to League One last season.

Netting on his debut for the Grecians in their 2-2 draw against Cheltenham Town in the Papa John’s Trophy, he would make seven appearances for the side before joining Aldershot Town, gaining vital experience of what the National League has to offer.

“It’s a tough division to be in,” he stated.

“At Aldershot, we struggled a little bit, but we managed to get over the line in the end. There’s a lot of travelling involved, but if we can get off to a good start, hopefully we can push up the division coming towards Christmas, and then we aim for a good end.

“The players here already know (how tough the division will be). We all know we have to put the hard work in and if we don’t put the hard work in, you’re not going to get the rewards. We need to put the hard work in, and the rewards will come.

“There are no targets for me other than playing as many games as I can, and trying to stay fit.”
