Bunn takes confidence from Carlisle display and recent results prior

Attacker Harry Bunn is hoping the Iron can bounce back at Tranmere Rovers following their narrow defeat to Carlisle United on New Years Day.

The 29-year-old was part of the team who put up a good performance but ultimately suffered defeat to a goal from a set-play in the game against the Cumbrians last Saturday.

Reflecting on the game to iFollow Iron, Bunn said: “We’re disappointed with the result, it’s a missed opportunity to get another three points that’s down there with us. It was disappointing to not be able to back up the (Boxing Day) result at Oldham as well. I think we were the better team and we kept the ball better. There were a few missed opportunities that cost us.”

He added: “On the flip side we take a bit of confidence knowing the way we played up until the final third, on another day we could have walked away with those three points.”

Halfway through the season now, Bunn said: “It has been a tough start but apart from the Carlisle game the results haven’t been that bad. We're picking points up slowly. It’s important for us now to start winning games, especially at home. I think we’re capable of that, we can play football and dominate games but we need three points.”

The defeat against Carlisle was the first in six games, and Bunn commented on how recently appointed first team manager Keith Hill’s change in approach has made them a tough team: “I think we need to be hard to beat, every point’s important for us. If we’re not picking three points up, we need to not be losing games. I think come the end of the season every point is going to be vital for us.”

Sam Burns is the Iron’s latest signing, joining on loan from Blackburn Rovers earlier in the week. The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for their Under-23s and in a loan spell at FC United of Manchester earlier this season, and Bunn said: “He looks sharp and as you expect from a young lad, he’s energetic and wants to be on the ball. It’ll be exciting for the fans to see him. I hope he hits the ground running to help us out and contribute to the end of the season.”

Talking about his performances following a return to action from injury on December 11th, Bunn said: “I think it’s important for me to get 90 minutes and then back that up with games back-to-back. I hope I can get a good run now until the end of the season.”

The next game the Iron face is on Saturday against Tranmere Rovers, in the first of two away games, and the attacker said: “There are no easy matches in the league but then again, all games are winnable - we showed that at home against Tranmere. Tranmere is a tough but winnable game for us. We’re more than capable of going there and picking three points up.”
