Hill: I'm really pleased with the performance

First team manager Keith Hill spoke to Iron Player today following the team's hard-fought 2-1 win over Yeovil Town.

The gaffer started by discussing the importance of the result: “I’m happy with the points, I’m happy with the result, but I’m really pleased with the performance, and the performance levels. We’re under a bit of pressure with what happened last season so to respond with the new group of players, in the way that we have, for our supporters was magnificent.”

The team was roared on throughout the game, and on the support, Hill said: “It was brilliant, absolutely superb, and I can’t thank them enough because they cheered the players on. It’s a new team, a new era, and a new start, and I’m really pleased for the players because of the work they put in, and ultimately, I’m obviously very pleased for the supporters.”

He then went on to discuss the team's performance in more depth, adding: “I think we created more opportunities, and probably should have scored more goals before they got theirs. It was a bit hairy in the last 10 or 15 minutes, but part of the 90 minutes is survival, and I thought we survived it well. The result should never have been in doubt, and it was a lot tighter than my eyes suggest it should have been.”

Hill was also asked about the importance of seeing the game out: “Its very important. It’s important for the group that there’s a sense of belief and a unity in the changing rooms. There’s a good blend between youth and experience, and we’re hoping to fight on for the next 45 games.”

The boss finished by looking forward to what’s next, and to Maidenhead away: “The weekend is nearly over, and Sunday is a day of relaxing and family. Straight away I’ll be driving home in my car, assessing, evaluating, seeing what we need and what we have to do.

“We have to be flexible and ergonomic, because it’s difficult to predict our starting line ups, but the first game of the season gives you quite a bit of necessary intel, and we don’t want to fall victim to that. There will be certain plans and certain things that we have to do, we’re away from home so we will probably set up differently and look forward to the challenges.”
