Peter Wright to referee Crawley home clash

21 October 2021

Peter Wright will be the man in the middle for the Iron's home league clash against Crawley Town on Saturday.

The Merseyside-based official will travel to the Sands Venue Stadium for his 13th game of the season and fifth in Sky Bet League Two. 2021-22 is his fourth year in the EFL after being promoted to the National List of Referees in the summer of 2018.

He began his referee journey in the Southport-based Craven Minor Football League before spending time in the referee academy programme run by Liverpool County FA at both Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs, alongside a spell with Durham County FA whilst completing his studies at university in the north east.

He has refereed the Iron on a total of four occasions, showing a total of 12 yellows and no reds in the four games in total. It'll be his third trip to the Sands Venue Stadium following two visits last season, which resulted in a win and a draw for the home side.

Meanwhile, he has taken charge of Crawley twice, with the last coming over two years ago. Both games, the Red Devils have lost 3-1, with five cautions issued across both matches.

His first game of this campaign was a goalless draw between Carlisle United and Colchester United in League Two. He subsequently took charge of Nottingham Forest's 2-1 home win against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup.

His latest match in the middle was last weekend, overseeing Salford City's 2-0 win over Hartlepool, in which five cautions were issued. He was most recently fourth official to Matthew Donohue in midweek for the Championship match between Sheffield United and Millwall at Bramall Lane.

Last year, he officiated in 32 encounters, showing 92 yellows and three reds. So far this season, he has shown 38 yellow cards and no reds in 12 matches.

On Saturday, Wright will be assisted by Declan Ford and Chris Ward, while Bradley Hall has been appointed as the fourth official.
