Cox: I'm delighted for the boys

First team manager Neil Cox provided his reaction to iFollow Iron after his side's 2-1 home win over Crawley Town.

Ryan Loft converted home from a Ross Millen cross in the early stages of the game, although there were claims of an own goal, before Jake Scrimshaw added a second goal just after half-time.

The visitors pulled a goal back later on but the Iron held on for their first victory since late August, and their second of the season.

Cox said: “I’m absolutely delighted for the boys and for the football club.

“After two hard games in the week we came home and, especially in the first half, put a good performance in with some good pace, power and passing, which is what we’ve worked on.

“In the second half we went 2-0 up and we did sit back a bit but not intentionally. We got a bit nervous, and it was a poor goal to concede, but I can only say well done to the boys.

“It’s been a difficult period since the Harrogate game for the football club, but for everybody to stand and fight to get four points this week is excellent.

“Lofty (Ryan Loft) has come back in and he makes a big difference for us. Even though he isn’t fully fit yet, his pace and power scares teams. We’re working hard for each other and that’s the main thing, after the Harrogate game it’s not about the individual, it’s all about the team. You can tell that we are all sticking together. We have to do better but this will give us more confidence heading into the next game.

“In the last 15 minutes, the balls into the box caused us problems but if we kept passing it like we did in the first half we’d get chances."

Reflecting on knocks picked up, he added: “Myles (Hippolyte) has struggled with a bad back all week. Jarvo (Aaron Jarvis) has had a knock late on and Scrimmy has got a whack on the calf so they will have a break (before the next game away at Colchester next Saturday).

“We’ve got an in-house game on Monday to try and get the other boys fitter to see who’s available for the weekend. (Alex) Kenyon will play, (Harry) Bunn will play, (Alex) Perry too, and the other boys who haven’t played games and need some match time as we have some tough games coming up soon and I need everybody fit."
